7 Health Reasons To Cut Your Sugar Intake

Sugar is an unfriendly friend that comes with serious negative health issues that are visible to the blind and audible to the deaf. but unfortunately, sugar is one the most highly consumed food components on daily basis. the craving for sugar is due to its addictive sweet taste that is very difficult to resist. the only way to resist sugar is to flee from it, because there is no power that can fight or resist its appealing gesture.

"there is no fighting her''
''no power can fight her''
''all that avails is flight''
The above little quotation is the only way to defeat your craving for sugar, i.e simply run away from sugar when you come across it in any way or form.
Given below are some of the health reasons why you have to avoid this unfriendly friend called sugar.

1. Sugar lacks nutrients
Sugar doesn't contain any vitamins or minerals. it is regarded as empty calories, and as such consuming it will only lead to depriving yourself from essential nutrients. most of the foods we consume on daily basis that are packed with sugar only contains negligible amount of nutrient. consuming sugary substances will eventually lead to nutrient deficiency on the long run.

2. Sugar increases fat deposition in the liver
Increased intake of sugar causes fructose to build up in the liver over time. the deposited fructose will eventually be converted into fat by the liver and hence leads to fat build up in the liver. this can therefore lead to Fatty Liver Disease

3.Sugar induces Insulin resistance
The primary role of Insulin is to promote glucose uptake by the cells and hence help to regulate blood glucose level within a normal range. high level of glucose in the blood causes the pancreas to secrets more Insulin into the blood stream leading to elevated blood insulin level, this is the starting point for insulin resistance. Also, the second function of insulin is to enhance fat uptake by fatty cells and then encourage the storage of fat in those cells and this will eventually lead to Obesity.

Increased level of insulin resistance  will eventually lead to the damage of insulin producing cells in the pancreas i.e the beta cells of the pancreas. with this damage of the beta cells, Type II Diabetes will result.

4.Sugar intake can lead to Western Diseases
Sugar intake have been evidently linked with many of the western disease i.e diseases of the affluent nations. some of these diseases are
  • Obesity
  • Diabetes
  • Heart disease
5. Sugar does not induce satisfaction (satiety)
The satiety center is located in the hypothalamus. this center help to control your food intake by inducing satisfaction. Lack of satisfaction will increase your food intake most of which are sugar coated and hence exposes you to more serious health risks.

6. Sugar causes Leptin resistance
Leptin is a hormone secreted by fat cells. this hormone functions to regulates fat deposition, food intake and also function to increase our energy usage. However, high sugar level causes fat cells to secrets more Leptin: but unfortunately, this Leptin is dormant and inactive as per its role in the body. this is simply the cause of Leptin resistance, which is why people eat more calories and burn less fat and then become obese

7. Sugar causes Addiction
Increased level of sugar in the body induces the release of dopamine in the brain leading to pleasure and the desire to have more. The brain encourages any activity that gives pleasure: this is why when we take sugar, the desire to take it in excess comes in.
